This is the first course in Module 3 of the Community Interpreter Core Training Program. This course emphasizes understanding violence against women, with a focus on the Power and Control Wheel, Cycle of Abuse, and Equality Wheel, while also preparing interpreters to navigate sensitive situations ethically and supportively.
We will cover:
Domestic violence and identify patterns of abuse in women’s experiences. Â
The Power and Control model and Equality Wheel in the context of interpreting. Â
Institutional and cultural systems that reinforce abuse.Â
The interpreter’s role, boundaries, and ethical considerations when supporting survivors of abuse.Â
Trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally sensitive approaches in real-life interpreting situations.Â
