This is the first course in Module 3 of the Community Interpreter Core Training Program. This course emphasizes understanding violence against women, with a focus on the Power and Control Wheel, Cycle of Abuse, and Equality Wheel, while also preparing interpreters to navigate sensitive situations ethically and supportively.

We will cover:

Check markDomestic violence and identify patterns of abuse in women’s experiences.  

Check markThe Power and Control model and Equality Wheel in the context of interpreting.  

Check markInstitutional and cultural systems that reinforce abuse. 

Check markThe interpreter’s role, boundaries, and ethical considerations when supporting survivors of abuse. 

Check markTrauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally sensitive approaches in real-life interpreting situations.
