
This is the fifth course in Module 2 of the Community Interpreter Core Training Program. This course equips interpreters with foundational knowledge of mental illness and professional strategies for working with clients experiencing mental health challenges.Â

We will cover:
Identify common mental health conditions, communication patterns, and emotional behaviors that may arise in interpreted mental health encounters. Â
Apply professional interpreting techniques—including faithful interpretation, tone-matching, and appropriate use of third-person comments—in mental health settings.Â
Demonstrate ethical decision-making by maintaining role boundaries, confidentiality, and professional demeanor when faced with emotional, ambiguous, or challenging situations.Â
