This is the third course in Module 2 of the Community Interpreter Core Training Program. The course will aim to develop interpreters’ cultural competence and self-awareness when interpreting in healthcare settings.

We will cover:

How cultural and systemic differences impact healthcare practices and expectations globally.  

Distinguishing between disease and illness from both biomedical and cultural perspectives. 

Reflection on our personal values and identify potential biases that could influence interpreting performance. 

Strategies to maintain impartiality while interpreting in culturally sensitive medical contexts.
